What are Lip Injections

Lip fillers, also known as lip injections are a non-surgical treatment option for patients looking to add volume to the lips, enhance the natural shape of the lip, define the lip line, smooth out lip lines, or correct asymmetry in the lips.

Benefits of lip fillers:

  • Enhanced Volume and Fullness

  • Improved Shape and Structure

  • Symmetry Correction

  • Smooth Fine Lines Around The Mouth

HOW LIP FILLERS WORKS

HOW LIP FILLERS WORKS

Juvederm®, Restylane®, and RHA® are three of the lip filler options that we offer. These lip filler are gel-like formulations composed of hyaluronic acid, a molecular compound found within the structure of the skin. When injected into the lips, these lip fillers create volume, correct asymmetry, and deliver a hydrated look to the lips.

faqs

  • During your initial consultation for a lip filler treatment, our nurse will determine the correct formulation and injection site to best deliver your desired lip filler results. A dental block will be administered to help numb the lip filler injection site. You might experience a bit of tenderness at the lip filler injection site during and following the lip filler treatment, accompanied by redness and swelling. However, those side effects diminish during the week after the initial lip filler treatment. Bruising at or around the lip filler injection site is normal, and you can reduce the chances of bruising by taking arnica pellets a few days prior to receiving lip filler treatment. The effects of lip filler can last roughly 9-12 months post treatment; the body will slowly metabolize the formulation, which can look like a gradual loss of volume over time.

  • Carefully following the lip filler aftercare instructions given by our nurse is the best way to ensure that your lip filler will enhance your features. We recommend a yearly routine lip filler treatment in order to preserve your results once you notice the lip filler starting to dissolve.

  • Lip fillers can last anywhere from 5-12 months.

  • Lip fillers should not ruin your natural lips. While lip fillers can be used to redefine the lips and help address volume loss, they are temporary and will eventually dissolve back to the natural state of the lip.

  • Smiling post-lip filler treatment will not affect the lip filler. However, we advise clients to avoid drinking from straws, kissing, or manipulating the lip filler treatment area for at least two weeks post-lip filler treatment to ensure proper healing.

  • If you have an event coming up, you should give yourself one to two weeks before your event when getting lip fillers. This will ensure that you see the full results at their best, with no swelling or bruising.

  • Avoid spicy foods and drinking from a straw after your lip filler appointment.

Pre-Care:

  • Please eat and stay hydrated before your procedure. This will help to make your experience more comfortable.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, please use Valtrex (valacyclovir), prescribed by your doctor three days before getting the filler.

  • Please ensure you don’t have any dental work two weeks before or after getting filler.

Post Care:

  • Please wait at least two weeks after taking antibiotics to get filler.

  • Avoid foods, supplements, and drugs that can thin your blood for at least 1 week before getting filler. They can increase your risk of bruising. These include:

    • Motrin, ibuprofen, Midol, pampering, naproxen

    • Fish oil capsules

    • Vitamin E

    • Garlic

    • Ginger

    • Omega 3 rich fish

    • Work out supplements

  • Please avoid drinking alcohol three days before getting filler.

  • Avoid makeup: Before getting injections, it is best to arrive at your appointment without makeup on and to avoid makeup for 12 hours after receiving injections. This helps to reduce the risk of infection.

  • Take arnica: This natural supplement treats bruising and swelling and can be found at your local vitamin store. It can be taken 4-7 days before getting injections to reduce the risk of bruising. Note: if you have an allergy to arnica or your doctor contraindicates it, do not take it.

  • Avoid waxing for two weeks if you receive lip filler, as this can create pressure and harm results.

  • Avoid using straws when getting lip filler. The action of using a straw the first week can cause displacement of filler.

  • Avoid touching the area 6 hours after being injected to prevent infection.

  • Avoid exposure to UV light and heat, i.e., sauna, steam, sun beds, hot showers, strenuous exercise, etc., as this may increase discomfort and swelling.

  • Keep the area cool with a cold compress, but don’t apply ice.

  • Avoid unnecessary pressure over treated areas, especially in the first 24 hours.

  • Avoid facial massages or skin resurfacing until the area has healed fully.

  • Contact your provider if any abnormal symptoms occur after your treatment
